You no longer need to choose between a disc or a drum style chipper. The Discone™ (patent pending) gives you the best of both in one machine. We've been asked many times, "What is a Discone and why is it better?" A Discone, simply stated, is a Cone-Head chipper drum that is combined with a disc. This "blend", so to speak, captures the best advantages of a Cone-Head drum (21% - 63% more efficient and superior cutting angle), with the best features of a disc (tremendous flywheel inertia and enhanced discharge capability).
A Discone is better because it does all the chipping on the Cone-Head drum. This method has proven both scientifically and in practice to be superior to other chipping methods. The Cone-Head design naturally produces a slicing/sheering action resulting in longer knife life, better fuel economy and many other measurable performance benefits.
The "disc" aspect of the Discone provides two major benefits that only a disc can provide. First, the disc in motion provides smooth steady feeding because of the flywheel effect it provides. Secondly, the large paddles mounted on the disc create massive amounts of air flow as well as superior throwing action making it nearly impossible to plug.
This Cone-Head Discone combination works extremely well in all applications. It does however work especially well in viney, leafy material such as palm fronds, where other machines fall short.
Safety of course is always a major concern. The Discone design minimizes material movement in the feed area. Severe slamming from side-to-side is virtually eliminated, making for a much safer working environment for the operator.
